On Sunday, May 29, 2022, Flags at Fort Snelling will be hosting their annual Memorial Weekend flag placement at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Evans-Nordby Funeral Home invites you to volunteer, attend or donate! To sign up to volunteer or request a flag placement please visit flagsforfortsnelling.com.
If, like us, this is a new group to you we have included a bit of their history and mission below.
It was May 2015, when Minnesotans learned it had been over three decades since American Flags were placed at Fort Snelling on Memorial Day. Learning that this tradition had been lost on everyone was a shock nobody could ignore. Step by step, a small group of patriotic Minnesotans had a plan to slowly grow the organization’s systems both operationally and logistically, to ensure a strong, sustainable structure to support the tradition year after year. In 2018, four local Minnesota businesses stepped up to join Flags for Fort Snelling in partnership roles, blowing the doors of opportunity wide open: VantagePoint Marketing, Richfield-Bloomington Credit Union and KARE 11. With leaders from each organization dedicating their time and effort to the Flags for Fort Snelling goals, Minnesota was able to place an American Flag at every headstone of Fort Snelling National Cemetery for the first time in over 35 years! It was an incredible sight to see the flowing sea of red, white, and blue- One we intend to see year after year as long as we have the drive to keep this tradition alive.

Friends of the Angel invites you to their 12th Annual Walk to Remember on May 7 2022. The Program begins at 10 AM and the Walk begins at 10:30 AM. The Program and Walk begin at the Angel of Hope in the Maple Grove Arboretum which is located at 9400 Fernbrook Lane. For more information please visit www.friendsoftheangel.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Evans-Nordby is proud to support Friends of the Angel and their Walk to Remember.
The Angel of Hope us based on Richard Paul Evans’ best-selling novel The Christmas Box, there are more than 120 Christmas Box Angel of Hope statues across the country, including statues in Canada and Japan. There are currently six Christmas Box Angel of Hope statues in Minnesota.
In The Christmas Box, a widow mourns the loss of her child at the base of an angel monument and discovers the precious gifts of life alongside a young struggling family that moves in with her.
As more and more people read the book and passed it on, demand grew for an angel memorial as a place to grieve and heal. Evans commissioned the monument and Ortho and Jared Fairbanks, a father and son, created the sculpture. The first Angel of Hope was dedicated in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 6, 1994, corresponding with the date of the child’s death in The Christmas Box.
With the face of a child, upturned palms and outstretched wings, the Angel of Hope offers solace to the grieving. The angel stands as a symbol of hope and healing for parents and families who have experienced the death of a loved one. Look closely at the angel’s right wing and see the word “Hope.”
The angel in the Maple Grove Arboretum, located just north of County Road 30 at 9400 Fernbrook Lane, was dedicated on May 6, 2001.

We at Evans-Nordby Funeral Homes know that you may have been inundated with emails, social media posts, and news about Coronavirus, but we want to update you with our mission during these trying times. We are here for you and will be continuing with operations but in a different manner than normal.
We are following the rules that the Center for Disease Control has laid out for group limits and social distancing. We have begun making arrangements over the phone or online in order to limit face to face time and avoid any unnecessary exposure. While things are operating differently here, we strive to maintain an open, clean space for families to have viewings or small private services. We want each family to be able to grieve in a manner that works best for them, but also need to abide by the CDC guidelines in order to protect the numerous families we serve, especially a large population of at risk individuals, as well as ourselves. If we are exposed and need to shut down, we can no longer serve the families that come to us in their time of need.
Please contact us at the funeral home if you need any assistance during this time, we are available and here to help in any way we can. We answer our phones day and night. https://www.evansnordby.com/contact-us
