Obituary for William Joseph O'Meara

William J. O’Meara, age 83 of Brooklyn Center, passed away at home Feb. 15, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael “Harry” and Kathryne; brothers Walter and Lawrence; and sisters Catherine, Patricia and Sr. Shaun. Born Oct. 1, 1934 and raised in Le Seuer County, Minn., Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1956. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, he had a long career as an international commodities trader.

Bill was a devoted and loving husband of nearly 60 years, father of seven, grandfather of 16, and great-grandfather of four. He took great joy in his family, loving to help wherever needed, tell a story, share a meal or walk in his beautiful gardens. He loved history and continued to learn throughout his life.

His loving and lively Irish spirit and deep faith lives on in those who will forever love and remember him: wife, Marie; children Kevin (Annemarie-Deceased), Sheri (Tom), Shamus (Erin), Glenn (Adriana), Sheila, Maureen (Mark) and Mary; grandchildren Kellie, Brian, Michael, Mollie, Conor, Patrick, Rory, Shawn, Shannon, Ashley, Nicholas, Michaela, Teddy, Amanda, Meghan and Alex; great-grandchildren Sophia, Samantha, Braden and Colton; and brother Richard (Cindy).

Funeral Mass Thursday, Feb. 22, 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Brooklyn Center. Visitation one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family.
