Obituary for Virgil Fritz Anderson

Virgil Fritz Anderson went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Virgil was born September 12, 1932 to Elsie and Fritz Anderson in Isanti, Minnesota. Virgil attended country school to grade 6 and then Cambridge High School. After high school Virgil enlisted in the Army and after that service he attended Minnesota school of Business and subsequently spent many years working as a loan officer and then later he worked for a title company until his retirement.

During this time a friend introduced him to Norma Haugen. Dad said that right when he met her he knew he wanted to marry her. They were married on April 6, 1963. In 1965 they bought their home in Brooklyn Center and a year later adopted their first child, Kathy. In 1968 they adopted Scott. Virgil was a calm, steady presence who always taught his children that if you could help someone you should. Many Sunday mornings he prepared his family to leave for church early so that he could pick up several elderly church members and give them a ride. He also showed us that giving to God’s work was very important. Even when he was unemployed for a period of time he continued to support their church and other ministries. After he and Norma retired, they enjoyed going for long walks and also spending time with their first grandchild, Ryan, and then with Stewart, Kenny and Martin.

Their life of service to others continued as they volunteered with a medical ministry to Madagascar and also with a ministry to Chinese students. In the past few years their lives were more limited by their physical health. Norma cared for Virgil lovingly until she became ill this past July and then passed away August 31. After this, dad’s health began to deteriorate. He moved to assisted living in St. Paul and then to the nursing home in the same complex. Family was able to visit him frequently

Virgil was preceded in death by his father, Fritz Anderson, mother, Elsie Anderson, and daughter in law, Tammy Anderson. Survived by daughter and son in law Kathy and Tom Lindstrom, Son, Scott Anderson, Grandsons, Ryan Anderson, Stewart, Kenny and Martin Lindstrom. He is also survived by nieces Jody Strzalko, Michelle Correa and nephews Jeff Lindquist, Kenny Kaasa and Reese Lindquist, and Niece Karen Kaasa and nephew Kenny Kaasa. A simple graveside service will be held in April.

Evans-Nordby funeral chapel in Osseo, MN handled my husband’s cremation and Celebration of Life service in July of 2023. I can’t say enough positive things about all aspects of my interactions with them. They reached out to help every step of the way—from planning the Celebration of Life service, the service itself, and after care contact. Brittney was the person I primarily worked with. She was kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, organized, and had great communication skills, which greatly helped in reducing my stress level. I plan to contact Evans-Nordby soon to pre-plan my own final arrangements.
