Obituary for Troy Miest

Troy Douglas Miest, age 50 of Maple Grove, Minnesota died unexpectedly in a car accident near his home.

Visitation from 4-7PM Thursday, March 10, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 9141 County Road 101, Corcoran, MN 55430. Funeral Service 1PM Friday, March 11, 2022 with a visitation starting at 12PM also at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Corcoran. A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11AM with a visitation starting at 10AM at First Lutheran Church, 719 6th Ave S, St. James, MN 56081 with interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. A Celebration of Life Lunch in the Social Hall of First Lutheran Church following the burial.

Troy was Born on September 22nd 1971 in St. James, MN to Douglas and Sherry Miest. Troy was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in St. James. He graduated from St. James High School in 1990 and was a member of the 1989 Minnesota State wrestling championship team.

He completed a 2-year accounting degree in Mankato, MN. After completing his degree, he began working at an auto dealership in Phoenix, Arizona as a salesperson. He then returned home to St. James to work with his father at Nelson Motors. Doug and Troy later started Hi Way 60 Motors together in St. James. He enjoyed spending his time off in St. James at his home on Long Lake.

Troy and Brigette Ritter were married June 2nd 2000 at First Lutheran Church in St. James. They moved to Michigan, where Troy worked as a service writer in an auto dealership. Later, they returned to Minnesota where Troy worked for 2 auto dealerships. Troy most recently became a realtor working with Keller Williams Classic Realty in Osseo, Minnesota. Before their divorce, Troy and Brigette were blessed with 3 wonderful boys Nathaniel, Jacob and Gabriel.

Troy was a loving and devoted father. He loved time spent with his boys chauffeuring them to countless hockey, soccer and Lacrosse games, rarely missing an event. Troy took care of those he loved by doing things for and with them. He showed his love by using his expert grilling skills, especially wings. Troy also loved to make omelets. He loved cars, the outdoors and especially boating. When he wasn’t working, you would find him on the lake tubing, fishing and skiing with his family.

Troy began a loving relationship with Ally Lodholz and in December of 2020, they were engaged. Ally and Troy had planned to be married in June of this year. Ally has two boys Kristian and Gabriel. Troy enjoyed spending time with all the boys’ playing board games, boating and snow skiing. Troy and Ally loved to dance and they did at every opportunity.

Troy always had a smile and was fun loving. He made many friends everywhere he went. He was a wonderful Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Uncle and Cousin. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Troy is survived by his parents, Douglas and Sherry Miest of St.James, MN; 3 sons, Nathaniel Miest, Jacob Miest, Gabriel Miest and their mother, Brigette Ritter of Maple Grove, MN; fiancée, Ally Lodholz and her sons, Kristian and Gabriel of Maple Grove; brother, Brian Miest and his wife Julie Miest; nieces, Paige and Lindsey Miest; nephew, Justin Miest and his wife Caitlin of Cannon Falls, MN; grandparents, Vernon and Kathleen Finnestad of St. James; and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. Preceding him in death are his grandparents, George and Lois Miest.
