Thomas Hess, age 55, passed away suddenly at his Plymouth home on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Tom was born in St. Cloud, MN, to Lucy and Allen (deceased) Hess on September 17, 1970. He was raised in Cold Spring, where he led a successful athletic career in football and basketball. Among his most notable achievements included helping guide the Spartan Basketball team to the State Championships in ’89. After graduation, he went on to pursue his master’s degree in finance through the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management – Twin Cities. Tom continued his career in the financial field.
While Tom piloted a successful social and educational career, his favorite achievement was being a dad. From loving his wife, to raising his two daughters and one son, his heart, mind, and soul went to his children. Every achievement his kids had, he felt was one of his own. His biggest contribution was making everyone he meets laugh. Tom was known as being the biggest kid at the party. His beautiful life will forever be cherished by those he is survived by - his wife Melanie Hess, and children: Samantha Versluis, MD (Eric Versluis, MD), Cara Hess (Nickolas Braun), Anthony Hess, his mother Lucy Hess, and his brothers Greg Hess (Debbie) and Tim Hess (Lori).
His funeral will take place at the Word of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers, MN, May 30, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., ceremony to occur at 11:00 a.m., with lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Tony’s college fund can be arranged through Melanie.
