Steven "Steve" Heikkila died on November 3, 2021, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester after a short illness, with his family by his side, He was 64.
Steve was born to Vernon and Evelyn Heikkila in Hibbing in 1957. He grew up in Silver Bay, earned his degree from the University of Minnesota, and spent his early adulthood in the Bay Area of California before returning to Minnesota and making St. Paul his home. He was a Professional Engineer in the environmental consulting field for many years.
One June 16, 1990, he married Kim Wikstrom. They adopted their son, Tu, from Vietnam in December 2006.
Steve was a loving husband and father, a devoted brother and uncle, and a generous and thoughtful friend and colleague, He took a genuine interest in others, enjoyed a good laugh, and spent his free time biking, running, swimming, and golfing in the company of friends and family.
Steve is survived by his wife if 31 years, Kim; his son, Tu; siblings, Lori (Tim) Bradshaw of Duluth; Mary (Scott) Sands of St. Paul; Jay (Marcie) Heikkila of Champlin; and Lisa (Adam) Himes of Plymouth; nieces and nephews, Ian and Emily Bradshaw; Alec, Zach, Walter, and Howard Sands; Chaz, Ted, Sommer (Ben) Luke, Ray, and Grace Heikkila; Jack, Sam, and Lou Himes; his brother-in-law, Eric (Anne Peterson) Wikstrom; great niece, Leena Jo Luke; and a host of brothers and sisters in faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sharon and Matt Wikstrom.
A special thank you to the nurses, doctors, and aides at Fairview Southdale Hospital and Mayo Clinic - Methodist Hospital for the abundance of care they provided during the last month of Steve life.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 7, 2021, 10 AM - 1 PM at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 14000 129th Ave. N., Dayton, MN. Funeral Will be 1 PM, followed by committal in Meadow Hills Cemetery in Dayton, with a lunch afterwards.

Our son recently passed away and of course you never expect to have to deal with this for your children so my wife and I were not only devastated but didn’t know what to do or where to turn next.
