Scott Birgin

Scott James Birgin, 65, of Champlin, MN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, succumbing to his courageous battle with cancer.

Scott was born on June 16th, 1960, in Rochester, MN, to Paul and Patricia Birgin. He grew up in Rochester, attending John Marshall High School, where he met the love of his life, Michele “Shelly” Birgin.

Scott and Shelly were married on September 4th, 1982, in Rochester, MN. Together, they shared 43 wonderful years of marriage and raised two devoted sons, Matt and Derek. Their family grew to include three cherished grandchildren: Stella (daughter of Matt and Samantha Birgin), and Emerson and Camden (children of Derek and Kelsey Birgin). Family was at the very heart of Scott’s life, and he treasured every moment spent with his loved ones.

After graduating from Rochester Vo Tech with a degree in Computer Aided Design (CAD), Scott and Michele moved to the Twin Cities area, eventually building their home in Champlin, MN. Scott worked in the fields of CAD and engineering for several companies, most recently contributing his skills at Sleep Number in Minneapolis, MN. His colleagues admired his talent, dedication, and collaborative spirit.

Scott was a man of many passions. He loved golf, woodworking, music, tending to his yard, and caring for the cabin he and Shelly enjoyed in Mora, MN. A skilled woodsmith, he crafted much of the furniture in their home, creating pieces infused with care and craftsmanship. A devoted music enthusiast, Scott found joy in the sounds of The Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Phish, Johnny Cash, and many more. Whether on the golf course with friends and family, cheering on his sons in their sporting pursuits, or playing with his grandchildren, Scott radiated warmth, humor, and unwavering love.

Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Shelly; sons Matt (Samantha) and Derek (Kelsey); grandchildren Stella, Emerson, and Camden; sisters Debbie Birgin and Theresa (Chris) Lucus; and numerous other family members and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Patricia Birgin, and his brothers Thomas and Mark Birgin.

A visitation and memorial service will be held at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, 34 2nd St NE, Osseo, MN 55369, on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed directly by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. A luncheon will be held immediately after the service at the Maple Tavern, 9375 Deerwood Ln N, Maple Grove, MN 55369.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at North Memorial Hospital-Robbinsdale Oncology Department for their compassionate care and support.

Scott’s life was a testament to love, family, and joy. He will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, his craftsmanship, and his unwavering devotion to those he loved. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit, generosity, and passion for life will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
