Obituary for Rose Marie Woodstock Lillestol

Rose was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 26, 1926, the daughter of Lillian and Lewis Woodstock. She grew up in Minneapolis and Clear Lake, Iowa where she lived in the home of her grandmother, Belle Woodstock. She graduated from West High School in Minneapolis in 1944.

She married Robert V. Lillestol at Central Lutheran Church on August 27, 1944. the couple made their home in Minneapolis. In the early 1950s they moved into their fist house in Bloomington with daughter Lauri and Kim. The family added a son, Corey, and another daughter, Lynn, before moving into a larger home in Brooklyn Center in 1958.

Rose was primarily a stay-at-home mom until Lyn started school. At that time Rose got a job at a pet shop at the former Brookdale Center where she learned to be a dog groomer. After several years at the pet shop she started her own grooming business at home. After she retired from the dog grooming business she worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block for several years.

Rose loved to travel. She and Bob took many trips, often camping with their children and later with grandchildren. After retiring she and Bob traveled to Norway, Germany, and other European countries. For many years they had a small trailer in a park on Lake Mille Lac. After Bob died, she continued to travel going to China, Mexico, Panama, Israel, France, Italy, and Ireland. Rose also toured all 50 state capitols and many of the state parks in Minnesota.

She was an active member of Central Lutheran Church for many years where she belonged to the Mothers Club, taught Sunday School for elementary and junior high school children and the Bethel Bible Study course for adults. Rose and Bob also were members of the Senior Couples Club at the church. She was a long time member of the Brooklyn Center Women's Club where she chaired the Trips and Tours Committee for many years and was a treasurer for two years.

Rose died October 24, 2017.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1992 and son, Corey in 2001.

She is survived by daughters, Lauri (Wesley) Winters, Kim Bird, Lynn (Frank) Stone; grandchildren, Peter Winters, Robert Bird, Sarah (Jason) Manro, Daniel (Michelle) Lillestol, Eric Bird, Andrew Bird, Nicholas Stone, and Anthony Stone; great grandchildren, Melanie, Luke, and Justin Manro, Landon and Hudson Lillestol; special family friends, Jack Bird and Leslie Swan; sister, Jane Brown; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard (Violet) Lillestol; sister-in-law, Jeannine Lillestol; many nephews and nieces and countless friends.

Funeral service 11:30 AM Friday, November 3, 2017, at Central Lutheran Church, 333 South 12th St., Mpls. Interment Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 PM Thursday at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, 6000 Brooklyn Blvd., Brooklyn Center, and one hour prior to service at the CHURCH. If so desired, memorials may be given to Central Lutheran Church Building Renewal Project.
