Robert "Bob" Hein

"Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23

Robert “Bob” Hein died on May 13th 2025 at the age of 88. He was born on December 2nd, 1936 in Martin County, MN. He attended Welcome High School and then Hamline University earning a degree in education. He later received his master’s degree from the University of MN.

Bob grew up on the family farm which instilled in him a work ethic which was evident throughout his life. He loved “working the land” whether it be on the farm or in the garden. He found joy in planting, cultivating, and tending to plants (and children) as they grow.

Bob married Patricia (Malchow) Hein in 1957. They raised four children in and around the Twin cities area. They later divorced and then continued to support their children and grandchildren together.

In 1990, Bob married Sally DeCoursey Haddorff, the start of a 35-year love story for the ages. Marrying Sally brought more children into the fold….and then there were eight. A blended, loud, funny, loving family.

Bob’s career as an educator spanned more than 30 years. He taught for a few years and then started a long career as an elementary school principal. This was his calling and his passion. He was well respected and loved by his colleagues, students, and their parents. He was a leader in the Osseo school district and was known for his ability to bring people together in innovative ways. He walked the halls with that “Bob” smile as he greeted those around him.

Bob and Sally have always been active in church. Their faith involves hands-on service and community building. He and Sally had a close-knit group of neighbors in Osseo who have helped each other through good times and bad. They still do.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rosemary Hein, Sister-in-law Lois Hein Brother-in-law Frank Delano, and son Brian (Anita) Haddorff. He is survived by his wife, Sally, brothers, Keith Hein, Richard (Gloria) Hein and Bill (Maggie) Hein and his sister Patricia Hein Delano; seven children, David (Melissa) Hein, Marjorie (Jay) Brodersen, Jennifer (Chris) Hazelton and Sara (Mike) Carlson, Katy (Brandon) Burns, Jeff (Caroline) Haddorff, Jon (Carla) Haddorff, and daughter in law, Anita Haddorff; 12 beloved grandchildren, Alex and Toni Carlson, Hannah and Daniel Brodersen, Jessica, Paige and Morgan Hazelton, Eli and Jonah Haddorff, Quinn and Zoey Burns, Charlotte Haddorff, and 4 great grandchildren, Maeve, Felix, Madeline, and Eleanor.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11am at Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations could be directed toward the Alzheimer’s Association or Thrive Childcare and Family Resource Center in Rochester, MN.
