Obituary for Paul Vetter

Paul Vetter, age 73 of Minnetrista, MN, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2021 after a long illness.

Paul was born on June 22, 1947. The oldest of 8 children, Paul grew up in Brooklyn Center, MN and was a graduate of Anoka High School. He worked for many years in the technology and computer industries, including working on early videoconferencing technology in the 1990s.

Paul was keenly interested in mechanics and electronics, and he enjoyed coming up with unique solutions to everyday problems. He was enthusiastic about motor vehicles, and at various times owned motorcycles, a 3-wheeled motorcycle trike, a Greyhound bus, and a semi-truck. He was always eager to fix your computer, car, truck, tractor, or lawn mower. If Paul didn’t have the right tool for the job, he would build a custom tool to suit the occasion.

Family and friends will remember Paul for his energy, his attentiveness, and his lively and quirky personality. He listened to jazz and bluegrass music endlessly. He loved animals and over his lifetime he had many pets. Paul lived out in the country, close to nature, and enjoyed having Bluebirds nesting in his bird boxes. He was proud of his large vegetable garden, where he grew extremely hot peppers. In the summer, he enjoyed watching the bats at dusk.

He is survived by his daughter Lael Vetter, of Tucson, AZ; mother Mary Ellen Vetter, of Brooklyn Park, MN; sisters Jo Ellen Ortiz of MN and Virginia Baker and her husband Tom of TX; brothers Greg and Bob of MN, Tom of CA, and brother-in-law Tim of FL; 1 nephew, 5 nieces, 4 great-nephews, and 1 great-niece; and many other relatives and friends. Paul was preceded in death by sister, Ann and brother, Lawrence.

A private service for family and friends will be scheduled at a later date.

Evans-Nordby funeral chapel in Osseo, MN handled my husband’s cremation and Celebration of Life service in July of 2023. I can’t say enough positive things about all aspects of my interactions with them. They reached out to help every step of the way—from planning the Celebration of Life service, the service itself, and after care contact. Brittney was the person I primarily worked with. She was kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, organized, and had great communication skills, which greatly helped in reducing my stress level. I plan to contact Evans-Nordby soon to pre-plan my own final arrangements.
