September 24, 1930 - April 3, 2026
Norma Ruth Mary Gilbertson (nee Kyro), age 95.
Norma was preceded in death by husband, Gerald; son, Mark; daughter-in-law, Judy; and their infant daughter, Kelly. She is survived by children, Paul (Patty), Steve, Becky, John (April), Ruth (Brian) Brateng and former daughter-in-law, Ginger. She had 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Norma was born 9/24/1930 to Otto and Marie Kyro. She grew up in the Bryn Mahr neighborhood in North Mpls. She spoke Finnish until Kindergarten. They were members of the Suomi Synod/Finnish American Church and Morgan Avenue Lutheran. She graduated from North High in North Mpls., a National Honor Society Student. She then went onto nursing school and met Gerald Gilbertson. They were married in 1949. She was active with her family, neighbors and Cross of Glory Lutheran Church. She wanted to help and support everyone. She sang in the church choir and was active with WELCA, Bible study and prayer partnerships. She always LOVED the coffee hour/fellowship time. She also loved Barbershop singing so she had many years in the “City of Lakes” chapter of Sweet Adeline’s Chorus.
Independent she was, so living these last years she started to show she needed more assistance than she thought. It took an accidental fall (where she broke some vertebrae) to make the decision…sell the house and move to Assisted Care Woodlake (formerly St Therese) in New Hope became her new home and final stop. We would like to thank the staff of Woodlake and Moments Hospice for all their care for the past few years.
