Obituary for Michael R. Jurgenson

Michael Robert Jurgenson passed away peacefully in his home on July 30, 2020, leaving behind his wife, Sandy; children, John Jurgenson, Sara Johnson, and Kelly Barnes; stepchildren, Molly, Kayce, Nick, Haley, and Alex; 21 grandchildren; sister, Polly Jo Van Beek; and several friends.Mike was preceded in death by his father, Bob Jurgenson; mother, Beverly Jurgenson, and sister, Peggy Jo Porter.

Mike was born on April 29, 1954 to Robert and Beverly Jurgenson and grew up in Leeds, Iowa.He played several sports growing up including baseball, football, and basketball and was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes just like his dad.

Mike loved his family so very much.He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, going on family vacations, going to school activities for his children and grandchildren, going to farmer’s markets, wineries, and camping. He enjoyed staying up late around the campfire with smores and making up ghost stories.Mike was the kind of dad who would watch “The Little Mermaid” for the 100th time just because it was his daughter’s favorite movie. He sent flowers to his daughters’ high school for birthdays and Valentine’s Day every year since he lived in a different state. He watched his son’s football games just like his father did for him.He was a quiet man, kind to everyone, and loved animals especially his two dachshunds Frankie and Lola.He loved life, loved to be on the road experiencing new places, or just staying at home cooking for his family and watching football on the weekends.

Mike has filled his family full of so many wonderful memories to hold on to forever.

I highly recommend the team at Evans Nordby. This past weekend, they assisted as we buried my mom. Twelve years ago, they assisted as we buried my dad. Brittney and the staff are so comforting, easy to work with and compassionate. They make every decision simple, and the whole process as painless as possible. I am so happy that we chose this funeral home, and encourage you to consider using them in your time of need.
