Marion Alva Newton Kemppainen, was born January 23, 1923 and died on April 12, 2017 at the age of 94.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; parents, Harry, Sr. and Ruth Newton; sister, June Lane; and brothers, Neil and David Newton.
Survived by her children, Karen Everett, Gayle (Tom) Herman, Robert (Marilyn) Kemppainen; grandchildren, Steven and Matthew Everett, Mara, Joseph, Abigail, and Michael (Katie) Herman, Nathan (Aya), Jason, and Justin (Kate) Kemppainen; 4 great grandchildren, Audrey and Victoria Everett and Lillian and Markus Kemppainen; 3 siblings, Clyde, Harry Jr., Bonnie; plus many other relatives. Marion was a caring daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend.
In the 1950’s she began a prayer chain at her church that continues to this day. She led Sunday School worship with flannel board stories and taught several generations of children to sing Gospel songs although she often stated “I can’t carry a tune in a bushel basket.” She was also well known for her fudge, apple pie, chocolate jell-o pie, and chocolate chip cookies, usually warm out of the oven.
Service 11 AM Monday, April 17, 2017, at Hope Lutheran Church, 5200 Emerson Ave. N., Mpls., with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at church. Interment Sunset Memorial Park.
