Obituary for Margie Salmi

Margie Diane (Erickson) Salmi passed away on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021, at the age of 75, after battling lymphoma. She spent her last days at her home in Andover, MN, surrounded by her family.

Margie was born Margie Diane Erickson on October 18th, 1946, to Carl and Cecile Erickson in Stambaugh, MI. Margie was raised in Iron River, MI, and graduated from Iron River High School in 1964. After graduation, she moved to Kenosha, WI and worked as a secretary.

She and Alvin Salmi were married in Iron River, MI on October 2nd, 1965. Over their 56 years of marriage, Margie and Alvin made homes in Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Margie was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She also loved sewing, quilting, knitting, and crafting of all sorts.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, John and Helen Salmi; daughter, Julie Shaw; brother, Theodore Erickson; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Ollanketo; brother-in-law, Thomas Ollanketo; and grandson, Thomas Konen.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin; daughter, Molly; son, Jacob (Natalie) and their children, Emma (Thomas) Trzynka, Margaret, Parker, Anne, Emelia Konen, and Hannah Konen; daughter, Carrie (Mitchell) Juusola and children, Aili, Marcus, and Evelyn; son-in-law, Joseph Shaw and children, Erica and Daniel; daughter, Katie (Paul) Himes and children, Cedric and Daphne; sister, Marilyn (Raymond) Kovala; brother, Lawrence (Lauren) Erickson; sister-in-law, Marian Erickson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of brothers and sisters in Faith.

Visitation will be at the Minneapolis Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 14000 129th Ave N in Dayton, MN on Wednesday, October 27 from 6-8 pm. Visitation again at the church on Thursday, October 28 from 10 am until the funeral service at 11. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Lunch will be served.
