Obituary for Lillian Larson

Lillian Rose (Schwegman) Larson, "Lil", died peacefully in her home in Brooklyn Park, MN to join her beloved husband Jack in heaven at the age of 87 on Saturday evening, February 9, 2019.

Lil was born on June 14, 1931 in Meire Grove, MN to Clemens and Rose (Schulzenberg) Schwegman. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1949.

She attended the Minnesota School of Business and upon graduation was employed at the First National Bank of Sauk Centre. After taking time off to be a wife and mother, she returned to work at Bonded Collections, then later, at the Minnesota Home School and after moving to Brooklyn Park, she worked at North Hennepin Community College. She was an active member of St. Gabriel Guild and a founding member of the Glen Echo Villas Social Committee.

She met the love of her life after a handsome MN State Trooper stopped her for walking too fast in Sauk Centre. They were married 6 months later on September 23, 1952. They were married almost 65 years.

Lil enjoyed spending time with her family. She and Jack traveled all over the United States and Europe. She was an avid seamstress from making clothing and blankets for her grandchildren to sewing clothes for their favorite dolls. On a hot summer night, she could be found cross-stitching her towels while cheering on her beloved Minnesota Twins. Lil loved having a June 14th birthday as this is Flag Day and she knew all the flags were up to celebrate her day. She was never hesitant to don her red, white & blue.

Lil was preceded in death by her husband John (Jack) Larson, son William (Billy) John Larson, her parents, siblings Marina Proell, Clarence Schwegman, Evelyn Botz, Raymond Schwegman, Mary and Joseph Schwegman and Donald Schwegman and son-in-law, Dennis Lightbody.

Lil is survived by her children, Jane Lightbody, Diane (Daniel) Gredvig, Michael (Kathy) Larson and Mary (Stan) Kielb, 6 grandchildren, Kelly Stumpf, Nicholas Lightbody, Kyle Gredvig, William Lightbody, Andrew Larson and Jacob Larson and 6 great grandchildren Cody and Carson Stumpf, and Madison, Ryan, Ellie and Aiden Gredvig and sister, Sally O’Gara and other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 18, 2019 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brooklyn Center, MN. Visitation will be held from 11am – 12pm and immediately followed by mass. A luncheon will follow the service. A private family interment will be at Fort Snelling at a later date.

Our son recently passed away and of course you never expect to have to deal with this for your children so my wife and I were not only devastated but didn’t know what to do or where to turn next. Evans-Nordby was recommended to us by our Priest and I’m so glad he did. From the moment I talked to Tina on the phone I could tell we were in good hands as she took care of every detail. We met with her the next day and she went through all the aspects of what we were to expect in the coming days, weeks, then months ahead. Every employee we had contact with at Evans-Nordby was kind, compassionate and extremely professional. Thanks Tina and to all at Evans-Nordby for making an unbearable experience at least tolerable.
