Obituary for Lawrence (Larry) Klein

Lawrence (Larry) John Klein

Larry was born on March 21, 1949, the third of eight children to John and Regina (Wald) Klein. He was raised on the family farm at Velva, ND. Larry attended North Prairie Country School #2 until he was in the 8th grade. He then attended Velva High School where he graduated in 1967.

Upon graduation, Larry attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering. He then moved to Minneapolis, MN to start his career with Twin City Testing. During his later years with Twin City Testing, he was contracted out to 3M for various projects across the United States. He finished his career with Metro Transit in Minneapolis where he was actively working until 2019. Due to his strong work ethic, it was difficult for him to fully retire as he was always seeking out part time projects to keep him busy with Metro Transit.

Larry had a strong Christian faith and attended daily mass at Nativity Church of Mary in Bloomington, MN. He had a love for all sports – especially Minnesota teams. That love could often turn into frustration with the many let-downs Minnesota sports teams are known for. He also had a love for cars with his 1971 Chevy Nova being his pride and joy. Larry was an avid walker and enjoyed spending time out in the sun reading true life stories and anything recommended to him. He also enjoyed all the reruns of the many old time Westerns on TV. Traveling was another passion of his.

Larry was a quiet, kind, and compassionate man, yet was not a pushover. He was steadfast in his beliefs which his family deeply admired about him. His love for his family was evident as he always made time for them. He constantly inquired about all of his nieces and nephews no matter the age taking a sincere interest in them. His quick -wit one liners always left you laughing. Plainly stated, Larry was the son/brother/uncle that everyone would want to have. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Those who shared in his life were siblings: Kathy Adams, Bloomington, MN, Joe (Cindy) Klein, Velva, ND, Paulette Frey, Tucson, AZ, Ken (Marilynn) Klein, Minot, ND, Betty (Jon) Bailey, Maple Grove, MN, Wanda (Gary) Reese, Denver, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents John and Regina Klein, sister Rita Bachmeier, brother-in-law Chuck Frey, and nephew Aaron Klein.

Our son recently passed away and of course you never expect to have to deal with this for your children so my wife and I were not only devastated but didn’t know what to do or where to turn next. Evans-Nordby was recommended to us by our Priest and I’m so glad he did. From the moment I talked to Tina on the phone I could tell we were in good hands as she took care of every detail. We met with her the next day and she went through all the aspects of what we were to expect in the coming days, weeks, then months ahead. Every employee we had contact with at Evans-Nordby was kind, compassionate and extremely professional. Thanks Tina and to all at Evans-Nordby for making an unbearable experience at least tolerable.
