Obituary for Lawrence H. "Larry" Menzel

It is with great sadness that the family of Lawrence Henry Menzel “Larry”, 78, of Osseo, Minnesota passed away on June 12, 2023, at Fairview Southdale Hospital surrounded by family.

He was born to parents, Lawrence Gustaf Menzel and Florence Cecelia Menzel, on 12/25/1944 in Minneapolis, MN. Larry graduated from Osseo High School and received a bachelor’s degree in history from Augsburg University. After graduation, in 1967, he joined the Kresge/Kmart Corporation for 35 years, while managing 19 different stores in several different states. Larry was drafted October 5, 1967, into the US Army, after completing basic training at Fort Bragg he was assigned to Panmunjom Korea from March 5, 1968, to May of 1969.

Larry and Linda would go on to have one child, Lori. One of Larry biggest accomplishments was being a father. He had always wanted children and considered himself lucky enough to have one child. Larry was a wonderful and devoted father, husband, and grandfather. He always taught us to stand tall, be proud, and know ourselves in all situations and supported me throughout the many accomplishments and difficulties in our lives. He was always there for us through their ups and downs and taught us to enjoy every moment life has to offer. Taught us that you always complete a task, give 100%, and never quit until the job is done. One of Larry greatest accomplishment was getting his private airplane licenses. When Larry was not working at Kmart, you could find him going fishing with friends and family and traveling with Linda or family. Larry and Linda brought a second home in Mesa, AZ, where they spent their winters. He enjoyed all the neighbors and have they have made lifetimes friends down Arizona.

Larry married Linda, the love of his life, on February 24,1968, and they were with each other through all of life’s ups and downs, who survives him. Larry is survived by daughter Lori Rausch and husband Allen, Brother Rick Menzel wife Barb, Brother Randy Menzel wife Kathy, grandchildren Mya Rausch, DaMonte Rausch, Milo (grandfur baby), and niece and nephews. Larry was predeceased by parents Lawrence and Florence Menzel, sister Carol Menzel, and brother Jerome Menzel.

Larry was involved with different organizations thru his life: Masonic, Shriners, Job Daughter, Moorhead, MN, American Legion, Elk club for 35 years, Osseo Lion Club, Rotary Club in Fargo, ND, Chamber of Commerce, President of retail division- of Chamber of Commerce in Fargo, ND, and March of Dimes in Fargo, ND.

Donations can be given in the memory of Larry Menzel to the following: Boys of Omaha, Disabled Veterans, and St. Jude.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 pm on June 23, 2023, at Evan-Norby Funeral Home in Osseo, MN. Funeral services for Larry will be at Advent Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, MN on June 24, 2023, at 11 am. Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
