LaVerne M. Lang

Lang (Czech), La Verne Monica, age 90 of Minneapolis, MN passed away peacefully April 4, 2025 in the presence of family. La Verne was born on June 17, 1934 on a rural farm in Two Rivers Township, Morrison County to Edward and Regina (Schichta) Czech without running water or electricity. She went to first through eighth grade in a small rural one room schoolhouse and then attended Upsala High School for ninth through twelfth grade, graduating in 1952. She moved to Minneapolis with her friend Ardella shortly afterwards and started working for Northwestern National Bank in downtown Minneapolis. 

La Verne married Donald Lang on July 3, 1954 at St. Phillips Catholic Church in North Minneapolis. First daughter Audrey Marie was born in 1955, followed by son Dale John in 1960 and in 1963 daughter Carol Ann was born. 

She started working in 1969 in various school kitchens in Minneapolis until she finally retired in 2004 at the age of 70 yrs old. This influenced her cooking abilities which she is known for her amazing recipes from dinners to desserts that have been passed down through the generations. This includes a family famous banana bread recipe which Carol now bakes and brings to all family parties where it is the fastest going treat. She had limitless love and faith which was part of the essence of her character. Despite dementia’s best efforts to take her strongest memories, it could not touch the fire of her faith as in her final weeks she retained the practice of the sign of the cross and meal prayers with family. 

She was preceded in death by parents Edward and Regina (Schichta) Czech, infant baby sister Marlyn and brother Leroy. 

Survived by husband of 70 years, Donald; children Audrey (Don) Manning, Dale Lang, Carol (Tom) Gooley; grandchildren Brian (Zoey) Gooley and Mark (Sarah) Gooley. 

Funeral service Wednesday April 9, 2025 at 11AM at St. Gerard Church, 9600 Regent Ave, Brooklyn Park. Visitation 10-11am prior to the service. Private burial to follow at St Edward’s Cemetery, 8550 MN-238, Elmdale, MN at 3pm.
