Obituary for Larry Lee Mortenson

Born on April 5, 1939, in Iowa. He passed peacefully on July 20, 2021, with family by his side. He was in a good place in ICU at North Memorial in Robbinsdale.

He was preceded in death by son, Michael Larry Mortenson; mother, Ruth Spence; stepdad Ralph Spence; father, Harold Mortenson; brothers, Roger Mortenson & Jack Spence; and sister Lynette Spence.

He moved around a lot as a child and graduated from Winnebago High School in 1957. He then joined the United States Marine Corp in 1957 and served three years of honorable service. He then found gainful employment at Micron Molding in Mpls. While Larry was working in Mpls, he met the love of his life, Patricia, and were married in 1963. They remained married for 58 years until his death at the age of 82 years.

Larry went from his 1st job to a job at Honeywell in Golden Valley. He worked there for over 30 years and spent the last 23 years in retirement. Since retirement, he has kept very busy with grandchildren, and over the years, coached many young boys and men in baseball and football. He met and encouraged those young people down a great path for a lifetime. He received much love and enjoyment for those years of volunteering at Brooklyn Park Parks & Recreation.

Larry was a kind and gentle soul who never spoke bad about anyone. He loved his Lord and was ready for a meeting. He is survived by loving wife, Patricia; son Chad Lee and daughter-in-law Tracy Richards-Mortenson; three grandchildren, Tanner Michael, Jonah Richards, and Lily Kay Mortenson; sisters Janet Spence, Debbie Baarts, and Becky Hohenstein; and brothers, Dwayne Mortenson & Gary Spence.

These people are wonderful. They went over and above in every possible way to help us with funeral arrangements, the visitation, service and burial, despite the fact that we had a limited budget. They were patient, kind, and treated us like family. This is a funeral home you can trust. Thank you, Evans-Nordby.
