Kenneth Houchins, age 99, of New Hope, formerly of Brooklyn Park, died peacefully in his wife’s arms on April 13, 2023. Ken’s life included farm work, service as WWII naval pilot, U of M aeronautical engineering degree, U of M and B. Dalton Bookstore Manager, Montgomery Wards appliance sales, Brookland golf pro shop, Brooklyn Park firefighter, St. Gerard’s custodian, baseball coach and scout leader. He loved family gatherings, serving his parish, RV travels, playing cards, golf and needle work.
Survived by wife of 76 years, Alice; children, Tom (Bonnie), Jeff "JP"(Kathleen), and Mary (John) Kavanagh; grandchildren, Phillip Nichele, Andy (Lisa) Houchins, Jesse (Jenny) Houchins, Sean, Curt and Kelli (Aaron Hayes) Kavanagh; 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass 11 AM Thursday, 4/20/23, with visitation 10 AM, at St. Gerard’s Church, Brooklyn Park. Visitation 5-8 PM Wednesday, 4/19/23, at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, Osseo. Interment, St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Osseo.

Evans-Nordby funeral chapel in Osseo, MN handled my husband’s cremation and Celebration of Life service in July of 2023. I can’t say enough positive things about all aspects of my interactions with them. They reached out to help every step of the way—from planning the Celebration of Life service, the service itself, and after care contact. Brittney was the person I primarily worked with. She was kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, organized, and had great communication skills, which greatly helped in reducing my stress level. I plan to contact Evans-Nordby soon to pre-plan my own final arrangements.
