Kathleen Bridget Berglund (nee Ward), age 77, of Anoka, passed away on December 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Kathleen was born on February 17, 1948. She was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Catty Ward; her in-laws, Eldon and Alice Berglund; sisters-in-law, Jamie Ward, Ann Christensen, and Kris Murphy; brothers-in-law ,Daryl Fishbach and Jim McHugh; and nephew ,Daniel Ward.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, John, and their cherished children: Tim, Bridget (Chad) Grigsby, Mark (Susie), and Carmody (Ben) Sime. Kathleen was the proud and loving grandmother of Lucile and Collette; Isabelle and Avrey Grigsby; Maxwell, Louis, and Sally; and Alice, Arthur, and Mable Sime. She is also survived by her sisters Mary, Ellen, Maureen, Peg, and Eileen; brothers, Dan and John; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Kathleen’s love for her family was unconditional, and her grandchildren brought her pure joy. She loved spending time with them and a get-together wasn’t complete without kids running around. Additionally, she was welcoming to all with an open mind and a generous heart; her home was always a place for family and friends to gather.
She was proud of her Irish heritage. Kathleen was strong-willed, independent, and she faced life’s challenges with grace and selflessness. She gave freely of her time, volunteering for Anoka youth athletics, Boy Scouts, and other community activities. Her generosity extended beyond measure—she even donated a kidney to save a life.
Kathleen was loyal, and her marriage to John was truly kismet. They met while Kathleen was an RN at St. Mary’s & the U of MN and built a beautiful life together over the following 56 years. Kathleen was John’s trusted advisor – whether offering advice in preparations for the courtroom, raising their children, or debating life’s big decisions, together, they were a powerful pair.
Kathleen loved adventure and travel. She and John explored the world and inspired their children to do the same, instilling in them a lifelong curiosity and appreciation for new experiences. She never discouraged – only encouraged.
Kathleen will be remembered for her warmth, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family.
