Obituary for Jonathan Rooney

Jonathan Lee Rooney was born November 13, 1965 to Raymond and Alice (Meinhardt) Rooney - the youngest of 5 children and lived in Osseo, MN. He was a curious child - always looking for new things to discover; a trait which he carried into adulthood.

Jon grew up very involved with the outdoors - camping, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling - and whatever else could be done outdoors! He carried that love of the outdoors into his adult life and loved to fish and deer hunt at any opportunity.

After he graduated, Jon became involved in the trucking industry and learned to drive semi. He loved his job and it was a profession at which he became very skilled. Jon's close companion was his dog, Raider, who was also his trucking sidekick.

In 2000, Jon was blessed with the pride and joy of his life -- his daughter, Samantha. They resided in the Fergus Falls area where he remained until his death. Jon was Sam's "other teacher" when it came to her education -- wanting her to share his curiosity and learn as much as she could.

Unfortunately, Jon was diagnosed with cancer in early 2017. He fought some hard battles and lived his life to the fullest with Samantha a full-time part of his life. After a sudden onset of medical issues, Jon passed away peacefully on July 15, 2018 surrounded by his family. Jon had a heart full of love, a kind, gentle spirit and a sense of humor that will be truly missed by family and friends.

Jon will remain in the hearts of his daughter, Samantha; his mother, Alice; and his sister and brothers, Pam, Mike and Jeff; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Rooney and his brother, Mark Rooney.
