Obituary for John Auer

John Richard Auer Jr., age 78 of Brooklyn Park passed away on April 13, 2023, in Minneapolis, MN. John was born to John, Sr. and Barbara Greene on September 6, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, the oldest of four children. John's father was a fighter pilot in the USAF during WWII so John, Jr. spent his early years traveling through the United States and many countries in Europe with his parents.

He attended Hillcrest High School in South Carolina where he met his wife, Dottie, in 1959. Upon graduation in 1962, John's father was deployed to Greece and his family followed. During that time, John attended the University of Maryland in Germany. He later returned to the States, attending Newberry College in South Carolina and later the University of Nebraska. Following college, he began his business career at Miller and Paine in Lincoln. In 1968, John and Dottie and their daughters moved to Minnesota. John was Vice-President of Midwest Stores in Minneapolis for over 20 years.

John's greatest love was his 3 children and 4 grandchildren whom he loved unconditionally. He loved attending all of their sporting events, concerts, and musicals.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John, Sr. and Barbara Greene and his infant brother, Paul.

John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dottie; children, Jill Elizabeth Auer (Terrie), North Carolina, Ami Grace Buchanan (Roger), North Carolina, and John Richard Auer, III, (Kristen), Maple Grove; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Noel Windle (Sam), Kelli Marie Auer (Bret), Connor Edward Buchanan, Cuyler John Buchanan and Great Grandson, William "Willie" John Windle; sisters, Barbara Block (Bob), Susan Boyd (Jim); Kristin Cohn (Mitch) and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of John's life will be held at Maple Grove Covenant Church, 9350 Upland Lane North in Maple Grove, Friday, April 21, 4:00 p.m., with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
