Janice L. Budach
June 21, 1935 - August 18, 2026
Janice was born in Graceville, Minnesota, on June 21, 1935, to Meinert and Elsie Aswege. She was baptized on July 14, 1935, by Pastor Wehausen and confirmed in the faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnson, MN, on May 29, 1949, by Pastor P. Kuske. Her confirmation verse was:
“The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear Him. He also will hear their cry, and will save them.”
—Psalm 145:18–19
She attended Trinity Lutheran grade school and Dr. Martin Luther College/High School, graduating in 1953. She started college but was called home to help on the farm in early 1954. After her brother was discharged from the Army and returned to work on the farm, she attended Mankato Commercial College, where she learned to be a comptometer operator. She worked for Standard Oil of Indiana in Mankato. When the company moved to Minneapolis, she moved with them and continued working there until 1959.
On July 6, 1958, Janice was married to Marvin Dean Budach at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnson, MN, with Pastor P. Jahnke officiating. They moved to Brooklyn Center in August 1958. They were blessed with six children: Cindy, Dean, Rhonda, Bruce, Jerry, and Rachel.
In 1959, a new church was starting in Brooklyn Park, and Janice and Marv were charter members. Janice began serving as the church accompanist in 1959. In 1973, she became the full-time organist. She loved it and played organ until her semi-retirement in June 2015. In 1980, she became secretary at Brooklyn Lutheran Church and retired from that position in 2015, on her 80th birthday.
Janice is survived by four children: sons Bruce (Debbie) of Hot Springs Village, AR, and Jerry of Anoka, MN; daughters Rhonda (Butch) Broberg of Robbinsdale, MN; and Rachel Budach (Kurt Briesmeister) of Shoreview, MN; son-in-law Mike (Molly) of Corcoran; sister Lanita (Dave) Farstad of Waverly, MN; and sister-in-law Elaine Aswege of Mesa, AZ. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She adored her “Bonus” Broberg grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janice was affectionately known as Gramma Bu to all of her grands and great grands.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Marvin; daughter Cindy Boyd; son Dean; daughter-in-law Shelly Budach; her parents; and her brothers Wally and his wife, Ruby, Bob, and Delroy and his wife, Dolores.
