James “Jim” Michael Jasper 78, of Hanover, MN, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, at J.A Wedum Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Catherine and LaVere “Sam”Jasper on May 11, 1946.
Jim was born and grew up in Waterloo, Iowa and upon graduation from Columbus High School, he joined the US Navy and proudly served as a submariner on the USS George C. Marshall from 1964 to 1968. After an honorable discharge, he worked for John Deere and during this time, he was united in marriage to Margaret “Peg” Free. Their marriage was blessed with four children.
In 1987, Jim moved his family to Maple Grove, MN and started his career with IBM. Jim loved hunting with his father and brothers in Wyoming and with his children and friends in Minnesota. Jim’s favorite pastime was fishing with his family and friends in northern Minnesota and really loved fishing in Canada for trophy fish. He played softball with his brothers and bowled with his wife in his younger years and later enjoyed watching his children play many sports through high school. Jim ended his career as a Maintenance Manager with The Toro Company. After that, he continued to hunt and fish, but really took a liking to woodworking, specifically cabinet making. He was always in his workshop creating projects and gifts for others.
Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus and graciously volunteered many hours to the community in both Iowa and Minnesota. Jim also regularly attended Submarine Veterans lunches and was proud to bring his children to the experience. Jim was a loving husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed!
Jim is survived by his wife and children: sons, Robert (Linda), Michael (Marci), David (Heidi) and daughter, Megan (Brian) Gustafson. Grandchildren, Hunter, Hayden, Nolan, Nicholas and Rigley Jasper and Noah and Harper Gustafson. Siblings Don (Marg) Jasper and Sue (Pete) Edmiston. Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
