Obituary for Iolene Doris Uzzell

Iolene Doris Uzzell, age 95 of Brooklyn Center and Plymouth, MN, died peacefully at the Legacy of St. Michael, MN on April 7, 2021.

Iolene was born on March 26, 1926 in Burschville, MN to Ernest and Emma Krone. She met her husband, James Douglas '"Doug" Uzzell, while he was stationed at a US Naval base in San Diego, CA. They married on April 9, 1944. Together they had six children (5 boys and 1 girl). Iolene lost Doug at the young age of 37 and was left to raise her 6 children on her own. Her faith and dependence on her Savior, Jesus Christ, gave her the strength to earn her GED and obtain employment at Red Owl Country Store in Brooklyn Center, MN where she worked for over 30 years. After a brief retirement, she went on to work at the Courage Center in Golden Valley, MN, and then as a cashier at the Cub Foods in Plymouth, MN, where she worked until she was 80 years old. Her faith, work ethic, and love for her family has created a lasting legacy.

Iolene is survived by her 2 sisters, LylaMae Varner and Verneal Klersy; 6 children, Jerry (Lynnette), James (Roxanne), Michael (Bonnie), Larry, Timothy (Cathy), and Joy Johnson (Paul); 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren (plus 5 step great grandchildren); and 6 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces/nephews, and great nieces/nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

A special thank you to the loving staff at the Legacy of St. Michael where she lived out her final days sharing her faith and singing her special song, “when we all get to heaven”.

These people are wonderful. They went over and above in every possible way to help us with funeral arrangements, the visitation, service and burial, despite the fact that we had a limited budget. They were patient, kind, and treated us like family. This is a funeral home you can trust. Thank you, Evans-Nordby.
