Obituary for Howard Stanley Swanson

Howard Stanley Swasnon, age 81, of Maple Grove, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018.

Howard was born July 28, 1937 to Stanley & Verbena (Dammann) Swanson of Vasa, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Vasa Lutheran Church.He attended Vasa and Red Wing area schools along with helping on the family farm.

He joined the army in 1956 and after an honorable discharge in 1958 he worked at the Welch Lumber Yard.In April 1959 he married Doris (Dicke) at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hay Creek, MN.They moved to Lake City, MN where Howard worked for 8 years at the Gould Foundry before coming to Brooklyn Center to begin a home contracting business, Swanco Inc., with his brother, Harold.

He became a member of Brooklyn Park Lutheran Church, now known as Discover Church of Brooklyn Park.He became involved in the church remodeling projects and later served on the building committee.

Howard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris; children, Karen (Lonny) Hill, Kay Lynn (Thomas) Lundholm, and Keith (Lynn) Swanson; grandchildren, Heather (Valentin) Perez, Scott (Angel) Hill, Amalia Lundholm, Kylie, Nathan, and Alexis Swanson; 6 great grandchildren with 7th baby boy on the way; and sisters-in-law, Mary Swanson Froom and Sharon Swanson Johnson.

Preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Herbert, Harold, Melvin, and Kenneth Swanson.

Funeral Service 11 AM Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Discover Church of Brooklyn Park, 1400 81st Ave. N., with visitation 9:30-11 AM at the church.Interment Mound Cemetery, Brooklyn Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Alzheimer’s Association MN/ND Chapter (7900 W. 78th St., Suite 100, Mpls., MN 55439).
