May 21, 1945 - February 15, 2026
Harry Allan Saunders, “Al" or “Grankie" as his family called him, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, 2/15/2026 in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Al lived a life guided by kindness, curiosity, and deep compassion for all people, animals and the world around him. A proud and active member of his AA community for 35+ years, he found strength and joy in the fellowship that shaped so much of his life.
Originally from Whittier, CA, Al’s heart found a true home in Sonoma, California, where he poured his energy and love into the places and beings he cherished most for more than 20 years. He devoted endless hours volunteering at Charlie’s Acres, where he considered everyone—especially his favorite goat, Johnny—part of his extended family. Over the years, his beloved dogs Nikki, Lenny, Archie, Layla, and Harry were his constant companions as well as the many dogs he walked and cared for at Pets Lifeline.
A lifelong CPA, Al brought diligence and care to his work, and in retirement he found fulfillment caring for animals. He loved photography, gardening, reading, golf, and time spent in nature, often saying that Yosemite and the Redwoods were the only cathedrals he would ever need.
Al is survived by his daughters Stephanie (Phil) and Jennifer (Tony) and his much-loved grandchildren Kate, Hannah, Nicholas, Avery and Camden. To all who knew him, Al was a very special human being who always put others first—with a gentle heart, generous spirit, and deep love.
His life will be celebrated this summer in Sonoma, California at Charlies Acres, his heaven on earth.
