Harold "Harry" Decker
February 15, 1955 - October 11, 2026
Harold William “Harry” Decker was born on February 15, 1955 to Walter and Yvonne (Coursolle) Decker in Minneapolis. He died on October 11, 2026 at the University of MN Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Harry attended St. Philip’s Catholic School, Jordan Jr. High, and Minneapolis North High, graduating in 1973.
A strong work ethic and mechanical ability was recognized at a young age and he was greatly encouraged by family members and high school woodworking, metal working, and auto repair teachers.
His career in the printing industry started in 1973 at Harrison and Smith. He also worked at Japs-Olson, Nordic, and Olympac, retiring in 2016 as a lead pressman.
Family and friends were the beneficiaries of his many projects and commissioned pieces. All were skillfully constructed or repaired and made to last. In 1989 he helped to build his home and meticulously maintained his home and yard until his death.
Fishing, hunting, shooting, bowling, and dog training were his favorite activities. As an amateur trainer, and sometimes with pro help, he very much enjoyed hunting with his dogs and participating in retriever hunt tests. In 2025, he was excited that his dog Chase competed in the Master National Retriever Club trials in Texas.
Friends he made were his friends for life. If you were a friend of Harry's you knew you had a loyal friend to plan the next outing with or who would come to assist whenever he was asked.
In 2006, he had the first of his many heart-related and other physical problems. During the next 20 years his heart continued to weaken but with medical help he continued to enjoy his activities, adapting as necessary. This past summer his right wrist was too damaged to continue bowling and he taught himself to bowl using his left hand and continued to participate in his bowling league.
His family thanks his Fairview medical team, and the doctors, nurses, and other staff at the University of MN Medical Center, especially his nurse Maggie who expertly and tenderly cared for him in his last three days. In eternal life, he gained perfect health.
Preceded in death by parents Walter and Yvonne, his grandparents, and sister Elizabeth. Survived by sisters Jane (Charles) Hayden-Hart, Deborah (Timothy) Tessman, and Marie (Micheal) Martin, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
