Obituary for Frances "Fran" Sorenson

Sorenson, Frances “Fran” H. (Schommer)

With profound sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Fran, our beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on July 13th, 2020.With family by her side, she left us after a short and painful battle with Multiple Myeloma in her 85th year. She shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with her loving husband, Arvid; was the beloved mother of Jon (Evonne) and Amy (Chris Goettl), and the proud and cherished grandmother of Josh and Sam Goettl and step grandchildren Ashley and Chelsea.Fran was preceded in death by her parents; Henry and Theckla (Haus), her brother Edwin (Lucille), and sisters, Estelle (Umberto Cola), and Rosella Schommer OSB. Mrs. Sorenson was a much loved 3rd grade teacher at St. Anne’s school in Minneapolis – best sloppy joes ever! She loved to cook and bake, and was a master at the games of Tetris and Solitaire. As an avid reader, she was the library’s best customer.Fran is survived by her brother Mark (Sherry); sisters, Isabelle ”Beth”, S. Andrine, OSB, S. Andriette, OSB, and Lois (Jim Kohout); and many nieces and nephews. Most of all, she loved her family and friends- and everybody loved “Panky”. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.Mass of Christian Burial; Wednesday July 22nd at 10:30AM at the Church of St. Vincent in Brooklyn Park. Memorial will begin at 10:15.

Stay Healthy. A post-Covid Celebration of Life will be held at the appropriate time. In the meantime, take a walk in nature, see and smell the flowers, scratch a dog, toss a Frisbee, read a good book, put down your technology, and stay humble and kind.

Our son recently passed away and of course you never expect to have to deal with this for your children so my wife and I were not only devastated but didn’t know what to do or where to turn next. Evans-Nordby was recommended to us by our Priest and I’m so glad he did. From the moment I talked to Tina on the phone I could tell we were in good hands as she took care of every detail. We met with her the next day and she went through all the aspects of what we were to expect in the coming days, weeks, then months ahead. Every employee we had contact with at Evans-Nordby was kind, compassionate and extremely professional. Thanks Tina and to all at Evans-Nordby for making an unbearable experience at least tolerable.
