October 24, 1937 - October 23, 2026
Ernest "Ernie" Schack, devoted father, grandfather, veteran, and community leader, passed away on October 23, 2026, just one day before his 89th birthday.
Ernie was the proud father of Stacy (Mike) Dillon and Judd (Kathleen) Howie, and the cherished grandfather of Brady, Tyler, Hunter, Brianna, Kaylin, Conor, and Cole. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow and succeed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arliss; his parents, Ernest and Maybell Schack; and his sisters, Violet, Mildred, and Luverne.
Ernie was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota, where he graduated from Technical High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University.
Ernie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Kansas City during his military service. Following his time in the military, he built a successful career in network management, contributing his talents to several organizations throughout his life, including Cargill, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), NASA, and Anoka County.
In 1983, Ernie met the love of his life, Arliss, on a blind date at a bowling alley. It was the beginning of a wonderful partnership, and the two were married shortly thereafter. Together, they built a loving home and raised two children, Stacy and Judd.
A proud and dedicated 54-year member of the Elks, Ernie treasured the friendships, service opportunities, and sense of community the organization provided. He was especially honored to serve as Exalted Ruler on two occasions, a role he held with great pride and commitment.
Throughout his life, Ernie enjoyed many hobbies and interests. He was an avid golfer, card player, and gun safety instructor. He was also a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan who faithfully cheered on his team, celebrating the victories and enduring the disappointments with unwavering loyalty.
Above all else, Ernie cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. He found tremendous joy in attending their sporting events, watching Disney movies with them over and over again, and making his famous ice cream shakes, affectionately known as "Oreo Shakies." After retirement, one of his most treasured roles was becoming the full-time caregiver for his granddaughter, Brianna. It was a responsibility he embraced wholeheartedly and one that brought him immense pride, purpose, and happiness.
Ernie will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, his service to his country and community, his wonderful smile, sense of humor, and the love, guidance, and kindness he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and in the hearts of all who loved him.
