Obituary for Dr. Takeshi (Tak) Osada

Dr. Takeshi (Tak) Osada, 98, of Brooklyn Park, passed peacefully at home on July 7.

Born on April 30, 1926 in Tacoma, WA, Dr. Osada lived through a significant time in our nation’s history. In May 1942, his family was relocated to a Japanese Internment camp in Pinedale, CA, only to be relocated again a few months later to a different camp in Tule Lake, CA. This is where he completed high school and met his future wife, Alice Hisaye Nishimura. After World War II ended in 1946, he was given $25 and a train ticket for any destination in the United States. He moved to Minneapolis to attend college and pursue a career in dentistry at the University of Minnesota, while the rest of his family moved back to Tacoma, WA. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952 and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1954. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent 2 years in Alaska as an Officer, completing his service as a Captain. In 1957, he opened his dental practice in Osseo, MN and provided care to his community for over 30 years. He was involved with the Osseo Lions Club and served on Osseo District 279’s School Board as the treasurer. In 1949, he married Alice and they raised 5 children together. Family was everything to him. He enjoyed vacations, watching activities of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and hosting several holiday parties throughout the year. Every New Year’s Day he loved to share the first meal of the year surrounded by all of his family and friends. Dr. Osada was an avid golfer, continuing to golf at 97 years of age. He was a role model for so many due to his humble, kind, and gentle nature with an exceptionally positive outlook on life. Dr. Osada was preceded in death by his loving wife of 74 years, Alice, and is survived by his 5 children: Ann (Gary) Monson, Mike Osada, Scott (Leann) Osada, Kim O’Quinn, Lynne (Todd) Delveaux; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many loving extended family and friends.

A private service was held by the family at the beginning of the month, with a Celebration of Life to be held at the Osseo-Maple Grove American Legion #172, 260 4th Ave. SE, Osseo, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 4-7pm, with a light meal served.

In lieu flowers, the family requests a donation to the Twin Cities Buddhist Association (TCBA) or the American Heart Association.

I highly recommend the team at Evans Nordby. This past weekend, they assisted as we buried my mom. Twelve years ago, they assisted as we buried my dad. Brittney and the staff are so comforting, easy to work with and compassionate. They make every decision simple, and the whole process as painless as possible. I am so happy that we chose this funeral home, and encourage you to consider using them in your time of need.
