Obituary for David Turcotte

David L. Turcotte, age 81 passed away August 1st, 2022 of Esophageal cancer, preceded in death by his parents; one son, David, Jr.; and adult grandchildren, Nicole and Nicholas.

He put himself through the U of M with the help of his wife, Betsy. After 3 years at the U, he went active duty in the Navy just in time to enter the Vietnam War. His college degree put him on board a radar picket ship to run the office and become Chief Master at Arms. Patrolling the east Coast waters, his USS Investigator worked a revolving pattern, searching for and reporting Soviet submarines, fishing trawlers, etc... at a time in history that radar was the best defense we had. The radar picket ships were retrofitted WWII troop ships with no heavy artillery aboard! He was very proud of the part they quietly played in the war.

He then spent 35 successful years in the retail management world, ultimately training personnel, advising buyers and opening new stores for JC Penney and Wards, as well as other smaller stores. A 12 year stint as a realtor rounded out his work world.

Survived by his wife of 61 years, Betsy (Olexa); son, Dan (Melynda); daughter, Debbie Moore; his brothers, Mike (Monique); Chip (Susie); and sister Teri Morenz; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; he was a very proud family man and friend to many over the years as he was transferred several times.

David was an avid Twins fan and Wild fan since he played both sports as a youngster. He was also a staunch supporter of our veterans as well as the Gold Star Families of our fallen military. Usually a quiet observer, those who knew him will miss his dry wit and his honesty.

It is a place of compassion, sincerity, professionalism, and staff who go above and beyond their call of duty. Our family has sadly used both chapels over the past months. The caring did not stop after the services. They offer their continued compassion to adults and children. With grateful hearts thank you.
