Obituary for David J. Apold

David (Dave) Apold, age 83, devoted husband, and beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 5, 2020. Dave was born in Austin, Minnesota to Joseph and Effie Apold and graduated from Austin High School. Dave proudly served his country as an Airman in the United States Air Force stationed in Hawaii for 4 years. Dave married Patricia (Pat) Swain on October 4, 1958 and added two sons to their family, Scott and Jon, while he completed his Engineering degree in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

After graduation, Dave and Pat moved to Minneapolis, where Dave started his first job at Honeywell. They bought their first house in St. Louis Park where they lived for 32 years. Dave was actively involved with his boys through Boy Scouts where he led the troop on many adventures, including many trips to the Boundary Waters which was a cherished memory for Dave and many of the neighborhood boys who were fortunate to have Dave as a Scoutmaster.

Dave also gave back to his community in many ways especially through his involvement in the St. Louis Park Lions Club where he was a 50-year member and served in many leadership positions, including serving as treasurer for over 20 years. David deeply loved his wife of 61 years, his sons, Jon and Scott Apold, daughter-in-laws Julie and Becky Apold, his grandchildren, Sarah, Megan, Tucker and Maddie, his many friends, relatives and of course his many grand-dogs. David will be greatly missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

A small celebration of life will be held with family with plans for a celebration of life this summer.

I just can't say enough about the help we received in planning my husband's funeral at the Osseo Evans Nordby funeral home. It was a very difficult time and they were so caring, sensitive, helpful and very organized in making the funeral go smoothly. The funeral home in Osseo felt so welcoming and comfortable also. Tina was extremely helpful in guiding our family with planning the funeral and went out of her way in finding the right memorial folder for my husband. I would highly recommend them. Thank you all.
