Darlene Joyce Smith, age 87 of Maple Grove, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2021. She was born in Minneapolis on May 26, 1933. Dar graduated from Edison High School in 1951, working part-time as a nurse’s aid at Fairview Hospital during high school. She was always good with numbers and had a long career in the accounting field.
Family was everything to Dar, nothing was more important. She had a special way to bring family and friends together, whether it was hosting costume theme parties or celebrating holidays with family. She shared her love of music, writing children stories and painting scenery with passion.
Dar was preceded in death by parents, Clifford and Florence Johnson; Brother Ronald; Son-in-law John Poppen and Daughter-in-law Michelle Smith.
Dar is survived by siblings Delores, Jerry, Denny, Bruce, Marvin, Linda, Laurice and Candace; children, Cindy, Tom (Kim), Tim, Ted (Marie) and Terry (Becky). Evans-Nordby funeral chapel in Osseo, MN handled my husband’s cremation and Celebration of Life service in July of 2023. I can’t say enough positive things about all aspects of my interactions with them. They reached out to help every step of the way—from planning the Celebration of Life service, the service itself, and after care contact. Brittney was the person I primarily worked with. She was kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, organized, and had great communication skills, which greatly helped in reducing my stress level. I plan to contact Evans-Nordby soon to pre-plan my own final arrangements.
