Clara was born on June 11, 1921, the third of eleven children to Robert and Rose Czech of Bowlus, MN.

As a child, Clara was raised on the family farm where she was responsible for various duties such as tending to the younger children and household chores.
In winter of 1938 and 1939, Clara worked in Minneapolis as a grocery store clerk and as a “Nanny.” She would then return each spring to the family farm in Bowlus to help with the crops, milking and taking care of the household.

On June 18, 1940, she married Mike Zupko, Jr. of Flensburg, where she spent the next 49 years working together with Mike on the family farm and raising their three daughters. In 1969, after 29 years as a farm wife, Clara took a job outside the home at Crestline Tool in Little Falls. She switched jobs in 1971 and began working at Hart Press in Long Prairie. After ten years of service, Clara retired from Hart Press. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Flensburg, as a Eucharistic minister.

After Mike’s passing in 1989, she sold the family farm and moved to New Hope where she lived for 29 years.

Clara continued to stay young by bowling twice a week, baking her famous Polish coffee cake, helping others, playing bingo and when she had the opportunity, she liked to go to the casino.

Clara is survived by three daughters, Rose Ann (Larry) Kopp of Brooklyn Park, Mary (David) Prokott of Brooklyn Park and Carol (Donald) Reis of St. Michael; three grandchildren, John, Brittany and Christina; and three great-granchildren, Austin, Josie and Marshall. Also survived by sisters, Delores Sousa, Marcella Pintok and brother, Peter Czech.

She is preceded in death by her husband Mike; parents, Robert & Rose; four sisters, Gertrude, Alma, Marie, Bernice; and three brothers, Elmer, Ambrose, Albert.

These people are wonderful. They went over and above in every possible way to help us with funeral arrangements, the visitation, service and burial, despite the fact that we had a limited budget. They were patient, kind, and treated us like family. This is a funeral home you can trust. Thank you, Evans-Nordby.
