Betty Mathson

Betty Jane Mathson, age 85, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at Stoney River Assisted Living in Ramsey, Minnesota. 

Betty was born on July 3, 1939, in Hibbing, Minnesota, to Robert and Ruth Jackson. Her family later moved to Crosby, Minnesota, where she attended Crosby-Ironton High School and graduated with the Class of 1957. She went on to attend Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she pursued a nursing degree. 

On October 29, 1960, Betty married John Richard Mathson of Ironton, Minnesota. Together they embarked on a life of travel, following John’s naval career to London, England; Rota, Spain; Rockville, Maryland; Honolulu, Hawaii; San Diego, California; and Pensacola, Florida, before eventually settling back in Minnesota. 

Betty loved cooking and baking for her family, playing cards, fishing, playing bingo at the local VFW, and spending time with her many friends and loved ones. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she especially cherished gathering family together to celebrate. 

She will be remembered for her warmth, her love of family, and her zest for life. 

She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Bridget), Scott (Kelly), and David (Joy); grandchildren, Meghan, Brett (Tarah), Cole, Luke (Luann), Reid (Kori), Jake, and Tess; great grandchildren, Mackinley, Bennett, and John. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and brothers, David and Charles. 

Visitation will be held from 10- 11 AM, prior to the service at 11 AM, at Grace Lutheran Church, 13655 Round Lake Blvd NW, Andover, MN on Thursday June 26, 2025.
