Obituary for Bernice Tacheny

Tacheny, Bernice “Bernie,” age 92, was called to heaven on December 26, 2021. During her time of suffering she embodied a life of transformed grace. She was born, true to her firecracker spirit, on July 4, 1929 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, Canada. Growing up in the depression, she always rooted for the underdog, acting as a model of Christ’s unconditional love. Bernice met her loving husband, Gerald, of 60 years, while working summers at her parents’ lodge. He couldn’t resist her bright blue eyes and beautiful soul. She found herself in the role of peacemaker as a loving mom to six children (“There was never a dull moment”). She held a deep faith and great devotion to Jesus and Mother Mary. Bernice fulfilled her passion of volunteering at Sharing and Caring Hands, St. Al’s: Respect for Life, Women’s Guild, and as Rosary Alter Society Circle Leader. All who knew her benefited from her compassion and constant need to bake for anyone who came by her home. She enjoyed being around people and had the endearing ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, always leaving them feeling better. We who loved her were truly blessed to call her wife, sister, mom, grandma, nana, great-grandma, and friend. When asked what should be written in her obituary she said, ”Happy days are here again,” sharing her sense of humor to the end.

She joins her loving husband Gerald; grandchildren: Peter Tacheny and Hannah Olson; parents: John and Clara Renneberg; and six siblings.

She is survived by children: Michael (Brenda), Dave (Randi), Mary (George, deceased), Tom (Lynda), Jeanine (Scott), and Paula; grandchildren: Kelsie, Dan, John, Haley, Nick, Allison, Hilary, Brandt, Layla, and Cole; great-grandchildren: Marley, Gemma, Kashton, and Elora; sister Joan Hirmer; nieces and nephews.

Visitation 9am and a Mass celebrating her life at 10am Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at St. Alphonsus of Brooklyn Center. Fort Snelling internment. Memorials preferred to Sharing and Caring Hands.

"Happy Days Are Here Again" by Bennie Meroff & His Orchestra (1929).

Lyrics

So long sad times

Go long bad times

We are rid of you at last

Howdy gay times

Cloudy gray times

You are now a thing of the past

Happy days are here again

The skies above are clear again

So let's sing a song of cheer again

Happy days are here again

All together shout it now

There's no one

Who can doubt it now

So let's tell the world about it now

Happy days are here again

Your cares and troubles are gone

There'll be no more from now on

From now on

Happy days are here again

The skies above are clear again

So let's sing a song of cheer again

Happy times, happy nights

Happy days are here again
