Obituary for Bernard "Bernie" Kahnke

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard Kahnke of Dayton, MN on June 14th, at M Health Fairview in Minneapolis. Bernie was 84 and is survived by his wife, Rose, of 61 years as well as their six children: Rick Kahnke, Kathlyn Friedrich, Kristine Spratt, Pat Kahnke, Brett Kahnke, and Sarah Collins. He found great joy in his children, eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Ethel Kahnke of Waseca, MN

Bernie received his Bachelor of Science in agriculture from the University of MN and his Master’s in educational administration from Mankato State University. He taught agriculture and led successful FFA chapters in Round Lake, MN and Mankato East and West High Schools. After receiving his private pilot’s license, he taught aviation at Mankato East. He retired after thirty years in the classroom.

In his early years, Bernie entertained with his guitar sometimes with his brothers. Bernie loved hunting, fishing, golf, the Twins, the Vikings, the Timberwolves and poker tournaments. He was an active partner in The Barn Restaurant in Madison Lake, MN and established his own fur business. He had a passion for growing the best tomatoes possible.

Visitation at the Evans-Nordby Funeral Home at 34 Second St. N.E in Osseo, MN will be held from 2-4pm on June 29, 2022. Bernie’s funeral will be at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 9100 93rd Ave N, Brooklyn Park at 10:30am June 30, 2022 with visitation one hour before.
