Wermager, Wallace “Wally”

Age 91. Died peacefully on November 17, 2016, after a determined fight against cancer. Wally was born in Gary, MN and graduated from Gary High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Evelyn Herby of Waubun, MN in 1947. They moved to Minneapolis and later Brooklyn Park. He was a loyal employee of the City of Minneapolis; 12 years with the Park Board and 30 years with the Fire Department. After retirement he and Evy spent the winters in Mesa, AZ. He was a life member of the VFW, a 45-year member of the American Legion and a member of Elk’s Lodge 44. Wally loved his family and was very proud of them. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and especially playing cards. He was full of joy and faith and lived life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evy; sons, Tom (Kathy), Bob (Vicki), and Bill (Connie) Wermager; six grandchildren, Amy (Chris) White, Tracy Henkel, Chad (Kristen), Todd (Missy), Danny (Gabby) and Ali Wermager; seven great-grandchildren; Tyler, Dylan, Emersen, Elliana, D.J., Milo, and Violet; sister, Avis Kjos of Mahnomen, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family thanks Krista, Lorna and Anita from Health Partners Hospice for the excellent care over the past year. Also to the J.A. Wedum Staff for the comforting care in his final days. Wally was a long-time member of Christ Church.

A memorial service will be held at 10AM on Monday, November 28, at Christ Church Lutheran, 3244 34th Ave S., Minneapolis, MN 55406 with visitation at 9AM. Lunch to follow. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Christ Church or donor’s choice.
