Obituary for John "Jack" Larson

  1. John W. Larson "Jack", age 88, passed away peacefully at his home, in Brooklyn Park, MN on early Wednesday morning, April 12, 2017. Jack was born on February 14, 1929 in Paynesville, MN to Emil and Martha (Golla) Larson. He graduated from Paynesville High school in 1946.

Jack served the US Navy during 1948 to 1949. He attended the Minnesota State Patrol Academy & began working as a State Trooper in 1952. He served over 32 years in the State Patrol and retired in November 1984. He rose through the ranks and retired as the Captain in Charge of Capitol Security. Jack served as a member of the Minnesota National Guard from 1955 to 1985. He retired at the rank of Colonel. He was appointed to the rank of Brevet Brigadier General by Governor Rudy Perpich.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; son, William John Larson; sisters, Elaine Jones, Eleanor Prom, Pearl Deadrick, and Marilyn Seeland; and son-in law, Dennis Lightbody.

Jack is survived by his wife, Lillian; their children, Jane Lightbody, Diane (Daniel) Gredvig, Michael (Kathy) Larson, and Mary (Stan) Kielb ;6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and other family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 7025 Halifax Ave. N., Brooklyn Center, MN. Visitation will be one hour before Mass from 10-11 AM.
