Obituary for Henry G. Kaeferlein

Heinrich "Henry" G. Kaeferlein, age 96, of Howard, Colorado passed away at 1AM Saturday September 9, 2017. Born in Munich, Germany, on July 1, 1921, Henry was raised during the Great Depression. At age 18, Henry was forced into military service for a war that he neither supported nor believed in. After seven years as a paratrooper and a driver in a horrific war, for which he was a POW for approximately 2 years, Henry finally escaped his captors and made his way back to Munich before his mother passed away.

After the war, Henry went to college to complete his Mechanical Engineering degree in Munich, Germany and proceeded to be recruited by many different corporations in the United States for his technical expertise. Henry retired at age 60 from his Mechanical Engineering career to pursue his lifelong dream of owning and running a restaurant. In 1980, Henry moved his wife, Anita, and his son, Bernie, to Canon City, Colorado, where they opened and successfully ran The Bavarian Inn until 1991 when he retired for the 2nd time. The family moved to Howard, Colorado, where Anita and Henry lived for 25 years until failing health brought them to Minnesota to be near family. Henry died peacefully at Mercy Hospital following complications of a broken hip on September 9, 2017.

Henry is preceded in death by his sister, Elsa, and is survived by his wife of 48 years, Anita; son, Bernie (Laurel); grandchildren Nicholas, Theodore and Christina Kaeferlein.

Our son recently passed away and of course you never expect to have to deal with this for your children so my wife and I were not only devastated but didn’t know what to do or where to turn next. Evans-Nordby was recommended to us by our Priest and I’m so glad he did. From the moment I talked to Tina on the phone I could tell we were in good hands as she took care of every detail. We met with her the next day and she went through all the aspects of what we were to expect in the coming days, weeks, then months ahead. Every employee we had contact with at Evans-Nordby was kind, compassionate and extremely professional. Thanks Tina and to all at Evans-Nordby for making an unbearable experience at least tolerable.
